The confrontation led to a escalation until police located Bennett leaving the scene.

Police said in the criminal complaint that Bennett arrived at the sober home drunk and the staff told him he would be drug tested. Witnesses said Bennett closed the blinds and asked, “Who wants this first?” He said that he threatened many people. Bennett then drew his gun and fired into the victim’s neck.

Following the shootings, Minneapolis police shared information about the suspect in both shootings with law enforcement agencies across the state.
